The recording resolution is determined by the Audio hardware settings of your Mac.
The audio is recorded into an apple lossless encoded .m4a (compressed but without quality loss). The resolution of this recording file corresponds to the Sound output resolution as set by the /Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup application (higher resolutions will create bigger, but more detailed files).
